David de Gea set to leave Manchester United

After 12 seasons at Old Trafford, David de Gea is leaving Manchester United as a free agent. His contract with United ran out in June, and no new deal was reached despite negotiations during the season. The Spanish goalkeeper said on Twitter: ‘I want to say goodbye to all Manchester United fans. I’m so grateful and thankful for the love you gave me for 12 years. We did a lot since Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club. I was proud to wear this shirt, to captain the team, to represent this great club, the biggest in the world. It was a privilege few footballers get. I had an amazing and successful time here. I never imagined we would achieve what we did when I left Madrid as a young boy. But now, I need a new challenge, a new environment to push myself again. Manchester will always have a place in my heart, Manchester made me who I am and will never leave me. We’ve been through it all.
